HF LearnSafety Firearms and Security Academy has provided

firearms safety and specialized firearms instruction to people throughout New England and beyond for over two decades.

Our instructor, Herbert Furhman is a retired member of the CT law enforcement community. An active certified P.O.S.T. state firearms instructor of the Connecticut Police Academy, he is also a National Rifle Association law enforcement and civilian instructor, a CT State Police instructor for training citizens, security officers and bail enforcement agents.  He is also a State of Utah Department of Public Safety firearms instructor and American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED instructor.

 

Herb trains students in many disciplines including law enforcement pistol and shotgun, civilian basic safety pistol, shotgun and rifle, advanced pistol marksmanship, skeet, and personal defense encounter shooting in the home and on the street. He is an authorized Basic Pistol Permit Safety class instructor through the Connecticut State Police and conducts private and group classes throughout the week. 

 

For the Connecticut Police Academy, he is a  certified firearms instructor for active duty police officers and retired law enforcement municipal, state and federal officers under the federal LEOSA HR-218 Act. He is also a certified range safety officer and recently served as the armorer and firearm safety officer on the movie set "Candlewood".

Mr. Furhman also instructs students in tactical shotgun and advanced defensive techniques. He has been a U.S. Homeland Security/ FEMA technical instructor for police, fire and ems personnel through the New Mexico Tech Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center for the Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings course and the Prevention and Response to Suicide Bomber Incidents programs. Additionally, Herb has attended numerous advanced courses at the United States Homeland Security Training Center in Anniston, Alabama and Sig Sauer Academy.

A state trustee of the Fraternal Order of Police, Brookfield Police Lodge 31, Mr. Furhman brings his experience from many years of service in the police and criminal justice fields. For years, he qualified at the Connecticut State Police Firearms Range as 'Distinguished Expert'.

 

Herb is a graduate of Boston University and was president of his recruit training class at the Connecticut Police Academy. He also served many years as a state academy instructor for correctional officers, counselors and other state officials.

 

Herb is 35 year life member  and state certified firefighter with the  Gaylordsville Volunteer Fire Department. He is currently on the Board of Directors and served 15 years as president of the department.

 

Finally, as a former volunteer supervisor for the American National Red Cross Disaster Services, Herb was deployed during the 2005 Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort, the 2007 San Diego Wildfires and the 2008 Hurricane Ike Relief Effort in Galveston, Texas.

Herb provides entertaining and thought provoking programs, looking at issues and concerns while expanding his students' insight into firearm safety. Present and past students include federal, state and municipal law enforcement, armed security guards, military personnel, national park service employees and the general public, from youth to adults. HF LearnSafety LLC is committed to its students. Many come back for advice on appropriate gun and accessory selection, and for on-going training in firearm selection and advanced shooting techniques.
